Having a rather independent style among too many genres, Metehan Corumluoglu – a.k.a. STYLE-IST -owes his
unique, freestyle and eclectic approach to mixing styles to his great passion for music since his childhood years.
Expressing this passion with amateur DJing during the teenage years, he started pursuing his dream career once
he started working for Acik Radyo – an independent radio of diverse musical, cultural and political interests and a
milestone in Turkey's radio broadcasting history. Besides being on the sound-desk for several shows, he also ran his own
show "Selection" on Saturday nights, and also was the music director for Friday and Saturday nights.
He first started to use the nick name, Style-ist, in year 2000 when he opened up for Jazzanova, at Club Orange – a pretty
short lived but challenging club experience he also was involved a s partner.
STYLE-IST stood for his freestyle implications, also referred to his experiences and interests in fashion business, but
most importantly captured the very essence of the city that he is passionately in love with: ISTanbul
The radio encounter continued in the following years with several shows in FG 93,7 and Dinamo 103,8 – the two very,
important dance and electronic music radios in Istanbul.
After having performed in countless clubs, parties, festivals as a part of the line up or a warm-up act, his career started
to boost when he expressed his freestyle approach by including many different styles in his extraordinarily fun, energetic
and catchy sets.
Up until now he performed in Istanbul Jazz Festival as the warm up act for Stereo Mc's and Freestylers, in Trouble,
UrbanBug, RockIstanbul, H2000, Electronica Festivals as the opening DJ set many artists like Marshmellows, Bonobo,
Watch TV, Lemon 8, he performed countless times in Babylon, opening for legends like Afrika Bambaata, Rokcers Hi-Fi,
Dub Pistols, Plaid, Dzian & Kamien, Eric Truffaz, Wibutee, Smith & Mighty, Dj Krust, Mercan Dede, İlhan Erşahin, Alex
Gopher. But the most exciting experiences among all, were his three times performances – one of which was with his
Rocktronica Project with Mabbas- at the Rock'n Coke Festival in Istanbul.
He also played in different cities in Turkey and he appeared as the after-show DJ at Amsterdam Paradiso in 2005, after
the Mor ve Otesi concert.
In 2003 and 2004 he got involved in a concert production company, IA Consultancy – Istanbul, as partner and worked in
the organization Snap, KLF, C&C Music Factory, Soul II Soul, Snowboy, State of Bengal, Dreadzone, Toob feat. Richard
Thair (Red Snapper), Deejay Punk Roc, Scratch Perverts concerts. Of course he also performed as a DJ in those
unforgettable parties. The peak point of this company was the Orbital "Last Concert" they organised in Istanbul.
Between years 2004 and 2007 he worked as the music director of Safran Music Club and Indigo Music Hall.
Currently he is the music coordinator of Babylon Istanbul, Babylon Lounge and Babylon Alacati as a member of the
Pozitif team, one of the biggest promoter, music publishing and music management companies in Turkey.
He is also running Dirty and Beat @ Dirty, two very cutting edge underground music venues, of which he created the
whole music and artistic concept.
Style-ist's style varies according to the circumstances he is performing. In most of his radio shows and opening acts, he
is more on the arty side with an impeccable blend of down-tempo, dub, abstract hip hop, electro, breakbeat ve drum'n
bass tracks as well as jazz, funk and many other related genres.
In most of his big club appearances he favours breakbeat and electro although he moves among the best and rarely
heard discoveries of techy-breaks and tech-house.
However he owes his fame to his upbeat and delicious choice of tracks he integrates in to his sets, from the 80's and 90's
pop and dance classics, rare remixes of pop and rock songs, some electro-clash pinches and also unexpected bootleg
tracks.
Above all he believes music is the best tool for freeing one's sprit, the only way of expressing himself by being the only
possible lifestyle he can have. He owes this to the continuous and limitless presence of music in his life, without being
bound to a single genre or style.
